Databases are collections of information that can be accessed and searched online via the internet. The databases in our collection cover all subject areas from hairdressing to law, construction to education.
If you are looking for references to journal articles you can use a bibliographic database such as Psychology and Behavioural Science Collection or Computer Source. Often the database may contain full text journal articles, Emerald, SocINDEX and General OneFile, for example.
You can also search particular databases for images, news film, law reports, financial and statistical information. You can select your subject area from the drop down menu on Electronic Databases to find databases which are relevant to your area of study.
How to access electronic resources
Most electronic resources subscribed to by Bradford College Library do not require a username and password to access them when you’re on Bradford College campus, as long as you’re using a college device and are logged in to the college I.T. network.
If you’re off-campus, most of our electronic resources can be accessed using your College I.T. username and password.
Please ensure you access the electronic resources from the links found within our web pages. The pages provide the correct web address (known as the URL) for each electronic resource and instructions on how to access that particular electronic resource off campus.
Access via UK Federation (Shibboleth)
The following applies to electronic resources requiring access via Shibboleth, which allows you to access resources using your College I.T. username and password.
When you have found the electronic resource on the College web pages that you want to access, follow the link to access the resource and then follow these steps:
- On the resource home page, follow the link to log in.
- Look out for any one of these links (they all mean the same thing but different publishers use different names):
- Institutional login
- Remote Users: login via your home institution/organisation
- Shibboleth login
- UK Access Management Federation
- UK Federation
- Set your institution’s location as UK.
- Choose Bradford College from the provided list.
- Enter your College I.T username and password.
If you experience an excessive delay, your connection may have been lost so please close your web browser and try again.
Authentication by IP address and EZproxy
All devices connected to the internet have a unique IP address which can be used to allow access to some electronic resources from a Bradford College campus computer.
To use these electronic resources off-campus, you must access the resource via our web pages. When off-campus, we use a system of authentication called EZproxy.
When you have found the electronic resource that you want to access, follow the link to access it and you will then be prompted for your College I.T. username and password.
There are some electronic resources that have their own individual username and password and are not authenticated by the methods described above.
These usernames and passwords can be obtained from the Library Information Desk.
As use of these usernames and passwords is restricted to the staff and students of Bradford College, you will be asked to show your Bradford College student or staff I.D. card as proof of identity.
