Students: Logging into the IT network

This post provides information for College I.T users logging in for the first time.

Returning students

Your College IT login details remain the same as before. If you’ve forgotten your password, please refer to this post on resetting it.

Please ensure your information is correct on Access Manager so you can reset your IT password later if required.

New students

Your 8-digit unique student/learner ID number is printed on your College ID card. It is also your College IT username and forms part of your College e-mail address.

Activating your new student I.T. account with your initial password

When you first enrol at College, you’ll be given an activation password which you will need to change when you first log in.

Once you’ve changed your password, you’ll have access to other learning resources at Bradford College such as Moodle.

Activating your account off-campus

If you don’t have a College IT device, you can change your password by logging in to Access Manager using your activation password.

Activating your account on-campus

If you are physically present at Bradford College you can follow the steps below or watch our video guide to logging on for the first time (Note: this guide assumes you’re using a Windows device such as a PC or laptop.)

Step 1
  • Press any key on the keyboard for a login prompt.
  • Then enter your 8-digit student ID number as your username.
Step 2

Enter your activation password. You will then be prompted to choose a new password.

Step 3

Visit Access Manager to review your IT security questions in case you forget your password and need to reset it.

How to get more help

If you need help accessing your IT account, please get in touch. We’re here to help.

If you did not receive your initial activation password at Induction, please use the following guide to work out your password.

Your initial password is 8 characters which are a combination of:

  • the first letter of your first name
  • followed by your date of birth (a zero added in front of any numbers below 10)
  • followed by the first letter of your surname.

Here is an example for a student called Jane Doe:

  1. The first letter is (lowercase) j taken from the first name
  2. Jane’s date of birth is 2nd December 1991, we turn this into = 021291 (putting a zero in front of the 2 and notincluding the 1st two digits from a year)
  3. Jane’s surname is Doe, so the first letter would be = d

In this example, the password that must be entered is j021291d

Introducing your College IT account

When you join the College as a member of staff or as a student, the College provides you with an I.T. account. In order to use most College I.T. devices, you’ll need to log in using this account.

In line with College IT Acceptable Use policies, you must use the username and password the College has provided you to access applications and  devices, which include desktop PC’s, laptops or tablets. Your username and password are your user credentials and it’s your responsibility to keep these details safe.

On occasion, you’re asked for log-in credentials to access different applications. The application normally advises you which credentials you need to supply (sometimes applications have their own log-in credentials which are not your College IT username and password). For help with credentials on such applications, please speak to the administrative team for that system.

Students: how to log in

See our dedicated post for students on how to log in, especially if you’re new to the college.

Changing your College IT password

We’ve written a post dedicated to help you manage and change your College IT password. Please note this will not cover systems/applications which do not use your I.T credentials.

Staff changing your passwords & working remotely

If you work off campus a lot or do work from home, setting up your Access Manager account is extremely important and saves disappointment when contacting IT Services for a password change without knowing your PIN number.

Accessing Moodle Virtual Learning Environment (VLE)

For Bradford College staff and students, Moodle VLE uses the same username and password as your College IT account. There are no specific login credentials dedicated to Moodle for college staff and students.

For new students, you’ll need to change your first password before you can access Moodle. Visit how to log in for details.

You can also view more information about Moodle VLE on the Bradford College Moodle blog.
